About Us

The Institute for Accreditation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BATA) is an independent adminstrative and non-profit government institution responsible for accreditation of conformity assessment bodies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

BATA has been established by the Law Establishing the Institute for Accreditation of BIH (Official Gazette of BiH, No. 10/02) pursuant to the BIH Law on Accreditation (Official Gazette of BiH, No.19/01).

The Institute has been established to implement BIH technical legislation which is being harmonized with the EU legal framework (acquis). The technical regulations regulate product safety and free movement on the internal market, health protection of citizens, environmental protection and other areas of public concern.

Assessment of conformity of products, processes and services with technical regulations and standards is performed by professional and technically competent laboratories, certification and inspection bodies.
Accreditation is an internationally recognized method of proving competence to carry out conformity assessment tasks. 


Accreditation bodies provide confidence in the testing, certification and inspection services regardless of whether they are provided to state adminstration (regulated area) or to a customer based on a contract (voluntary area).

In accordance with BAS EN ISO/IEC 17011, BATA, as the sole national accreditation body, is responsible for:

  • accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories;
  • accreditation of product certification bodies;
  • accreditation of bodies providing certification of quality and environmental management systems technical regulations;
  • accreditation of bodies certifying persons;
  • accreditation of inspection bodies;
  • assessment and confirmation of competence of conformity assessment bodies in accordance with technical regulations;
  • supervision of accredited bodies;
  • establishment and maintainance of a register of accredited conformity assessment bodies;
  • technical assistance to state adminstration institutions in implementing the accreditation policy in conformity assessment area;
  • signing agreements EA (European co-operation for Accreditation) on the recognition of equivalence of accreditation procedures and documents issused by accredited bodies (EA MLA);
  • promotion of accreditation and education in the field of accreditation.

In accordance with the law, BATA has an established internal organizational structure and external bodies (Accreditation Advisory Council, Appeal Committee and technical committees) that provide significant support to the BIH Accreditation System.
